OUR FABRIC

What is "mess and spill-resistant technology"?

Mess and spill-resistant mean your Mother Oxford is easier to care for than your standard button down. Your MO repels liquids, so spills and messes can be wiped or rinsed right off. Not only can you stay clean without an outfit change, your shirt is much less likely to stain when you treat it immediately.

MO is not wrinkle resistant or no-iron so make sure to check out our tips on minimizing wrinkles (they apply to the rest of your wardrobe, too).

Is it stain-proof?

MO is not stain-proof (there are no absolutes in life!), but with our mess and spill-resistant technology, your Mother Oxford is easier to care for. Your MO is less likely to stain than a typical cotton garment as long as you follow our care instructions.

MO fairs well when it comes to wrinkles, but it is not wrinkle resistant or no-iron. Make sure to check out our tips on minimizing wrinkles (they apply to the rest of your wardrobe, too).

Does it wrinkle?

To reduce wrinkles out of the wash, always do the following:

  • Include your MO in a load, do not wash alone. This may reduce the wrinkles that can be caused by high spin speeds as clothing is forced against the washer drum.
  • Wash and line dry immediately. When left in a machine too long, the wrinkles from the spin cycle can be set into the fabric.
  • Before hanging to dry, shake and hand-smooth out wrinkles.
  • For a crisper finish, iron on low, or steam on a low temp with a gentle tug to assist dewrinkling.

If you choose to iron to remove wrinkles, use a very low temp setting to protect the spill resistant qualities of the fabric. We do not recommend dry cleaning. If you choose to do so, the spill-resistant qualities of the fabric may be reduced.

MO is not wrinkle resistant or no-iron. MO IS spill-resistant and easier to care for.

Is the fabric heavy and opaque?

Made with a luxe premium fabric that is 98% Cotton, 2% Elastane, our shirts and dresses don't require an undershirt or slip, but everybody has a different tolerance for opacity.

Our fabric is breathable and sweat is less likely to linger on the fabric. And, by allowing perspiration to disperse it's likely you'll avoid the tell-tale signs of stress (sweat rings and smell).

We like to say even the most stressful mothering moments will feel a bit more chill in Mother Oxford.

Do you use chemicals on your fabric?

Our fabrics do not have PFOA or PFOS. We source European fabric, which is held to the strictest regulations worldwide, and our fabric mill is at the forefront of using clean technology.

Our fabric is OEKO-TEX® certified. Companies & Mills have to apply for this certification, and if issued it confirms that all materials being used are tested for harmful chemicals to protect our environment.

All products used in the making of our fabric as well all manufacturing processes have been certified by REACh (the European Union standard). The aim of these standards is to protect consumers from health and environmental risks.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Minimizing stains

These steps before laundering are more likely to reduce the chance that a stain will be present after the wash. Makeup and other ingredients or substances that contain oils have to be treated right away.

  • Always rinse any mess as soon as it happens.
  • If still visible, apply a small amount of grease fighting dish soap to the remaining residue. Then, gently work that residue out.
  • Rinse with hot water.
  • Launder (Always line dry.)

Mother Oxford is designed to be mess and spill-friendly, and easier to care for than your standard button down. It doesn't mean stain proof (there are no absolutes in life!) - but with proper care, will stay cleaner, longer.

Stains can be a MOFO to get out, but MO makes it easier. Remember, our fabric is stain resistant which reduces the likelihood of stains (and nothing is stain proof).

How to wash

Machine wash warm, hang or lay flat to dry. Do not tumble dry. Iron or steam on low.

Laundering tips:

  • Include your MO in a load, do not wash alone. This may reduce the wrinkles that can be caused by high spin speeds as clothing is forced against the washer drum. (But don't overload your washer because that can cause wrinkles too. And consider a lower speed spin cycle.)

We do not recommend dry cleaning to protect the spill-resistant qualities of the fabric.

Make sure to read our tips for minimizing stains.

Wrinkles

MO is not wrinkle resistant or no-iron. MO IS spill-resistant and easier to care for as a result. To minimize wrinkles out of the wash, always do the following:

  • Include your MO in a load, do not wash alone. This may reduce the wrinkles that can be caused by high spin speeds as clothing is forced against the washer drum. (But don't overload your washer because that can cause wrinkles too. And consider a lower speed spin cycle.)
  • Wash and line dry immediately. When left in a machine too long, the wrinkles from the spin cycle can be set into the fabric.
  • Before hanging to dry, shake and hand-smooth out wrinkles.
  • For a crisper finish, steam on a low temp with a gentle tug to assist dewrinkling.

We do not recommend ironing to protect the fabric, but if you choose to do so use a very low temp setting. We do not recommend dry cleaning. If you choose to do so, the spill-resistant qualities of the fabric may be reduced.

What not to do

We don't recommend the following to keep your MO in tip top shape:

  • Don't leave messes unattended - follow the above steps to minimize stains.
  • Don't wash it alone. Going for a spin solo forces your MO against the washer drum and can cause wrinkles to set in during the high speed spin cycle.
  • Line dry immediately after washing. Don't let it sit in the washer.
  • Don't put your MO in the dryer.
  • Don't iron or dry clean to protect what you love about our fabric (most liquid spills just roll right off, it's breathable, dries quickly...).

Makeup and substances containing oil

Makeup and other ingredients or substances that contain oils have to be treated right away. Rinse and gently massage a small amount of grease fighting dish soap on the spot, and rinse with hot water. This all needs to happen before laundering according to our care instructions.

These stains can be a MOFO to get out, but MO makes it easier. Remember, our fabric is stain resistant which reduces the likelihood of stains (and nothing is stain proof).

Care on the go

Getting messy while you're out? Don't panic! And, don't rub or agitate the mess.

If you can take it off, simply rinse it under cool water until the mess is gone. In a pinch, you can squeeze a stream of water over the spill (think wet cloth/paper towel or even a pure water baby wipe) and rinse that way.

Make sure to read "Minimizing stains" to learn why it's important to pre-treat all messes.

Can something still stain the shirt?

Of course. If you get smothered with ketchup and let it sit in the laundry basket for days (or weeks), it can stain. But, if you follow our "Minimizing stains" tips, the likelihood that a stain will set in is dramatically lower than with a typical cotton garment.

What makes you think I can wear white?

Why not?

Many women opt to exclude certain things from their wardrobe when they become mothers. You can still confidently wear white as a mother, especially when it's a mess-friendly fabric!
